Hey everybody, and welcome back to another episode of Ask Velvet Podcast. You already know how we do it around here. We talk about life, we talk about relationships, we talk about things happening in the world, we laugh, we sometimes get a little frustrated, and every now and then I just have to sit down and tell y'all about something that happened in my own life. And today, oh boy. Today is definitely one of those life moments. Because let me tell y'all something. Have you ever had one of those days where you were trying to make something happen? You did everything you were supposed to do. You tried everything you could possibly think of, and somehow it still didn't work out. Well, baby, that was me today. I had a job interview scheduled with a company here in DC. And let me tell you, I really wanted this job. So I was ready. I was prepared. I was trying to make it happen. The company required me to download an app for the interview. So I went to download it on my phone, and my phone said noob, noob, noop, noop, noob, noob. It wouldn't let me download the app. Okay, no problem. I contacted my temp agency and let them know what was happening. Then I thought, well, let me try my daughter's phone. So I got my daughter's phone, downloaded the app, got connected, and I thought, okay, we got this. I was sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting. I was sitting there for about an hour, and then I got disconnected. Now at this point, I'm frustrated because I'm thinking, come on, I really want this job. So I contacted my temp agency again and told them what happened. We tried to figure out another way to make this interview happen. We even tried to do it through Zoom. But of course, that wasn't happening with this company. And eventually the temp agency let me know that the company had interviewed other people and decided to hire someone else. Now, let me tell you, was I disappointed? Absolutely. But because I never even got the chance to interview. And that's what made it frustrating. It wasn't that they interviewed me and said, Velvet, we're going with somebody else. No, I didn't even get in the door. And I can't lie, one of me was sitting there thinking, well damn. Because when something like that happens, you start wondering, was this really ever going to happen? You know what I mean, because sometimes you can look at a situation and think, maybe they really weren't that interested in interviewing me in the first place. And that's where some of my frustration with employers comes in. Because sometimes it feels like employers forget that there's a real person on the other side of that application. There's a real person who needs a job. There's a real person who may have been unemployed, looking for work, trying to get back on their feet. And when something completely outside of their control happens, it can be incredibly frustrating when the response is basically, okay, we'll just hire somebody else. But you know what? After I had my moment of frustration, I had to tell myself, Velvet, what are you going to do about it? And my answer was keep moving. Because there's an old saying that I believe with everything in me. What's meant for you will not pass you by. And I had to remind myself of that today. Because maybe this wasn't my job. Maybe this wasn't my opportunity. Maybe this wasn't the door I was supposed to walk through. And that's okay. Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I frustrated? Yes. But am I defeated? Absolutely not. Because my story doesn't end with one interview that never happened. My story doesn't end because one company chose somebody else. And my future certainly isn't determined by one employer. My temp agency knows I'm looking. They know I want to work. And I trust that another opportunity is going to come along. And maybe the next opportunity will be better. Maybe it'll pay better. Maybe it'll be closer to home. Maybe I'll meet people there who I'm supposed to meet. Maybe it'll lead me somewhere I never expected to go. We just don't know. And that's the thing about life. Sometimes we want answers immediately. We want to know why something didn't work. We want to know why that person left, why we didn't get that job, why that relationship ended, why that opportunity disappeared. But sometimes the answer doesn't come until later. Sometimes you look back months or years later and say, Oh, now I understand why that didn't work out. And that's the place I'm choosing to be today. I'm going to be disappointed, but I'm not going to stay disappointed. I'm going to be frustrated, but I'm not going to allow frustration to stop me. I'm going to acknowledge what happened. Take the lesson from it and keep moving. Because y'all, life happens, shit happens. Sometimes things don't go according to plan. Sometimes technology fails. Sometimes people change their minds. Sometimes doors close. Sometimes opportunities pass us by. And sometimes shit just happens. But what matters is what you do after it happens. You pick yourself up, you dust yourself off, you take a deep breath, and you keep going. So if you're listening to me right now and something just didn't work out for you, maybe you didn't get the job. Maybe that relationship didn't work out. Maybe that opportunity you were counting on disappeared. Don't let that one disappointment convince you that your story is over. It isn't. Turn the page because there are still chapters left to be written. And I'm going to keep writing mine. I'm going to keep applying. I'm going to keep showing up. I'm going to keep believing. And I'm going to keep reminding myself what's meant for me will not pass me by. So, my friends, that is today's life moment. It wasn't the life moment I expected to have today, but it was definitely one I needed to share. And maybe somebody listening needed to hear this today, too. Don't give up because one door closed. Don't question your worth because somebody didn't choose you. And don't allow one bad experience to convince you that nothing good is coming. Keep going, keep believing, keep moving, because sometimes what feels like rejection today turns out to be redirection tomorrow. And that's something worth remembering. Until next time, this is Velvet. And remember, life happens, shit happens, but we keep living, we keep learning, and we keep moving forward. I'll see y'all on the next episode of Ask Velvet Podcast.
