Welcome back to the Ask Velvet Podcast. From the porch to the couch, come on in and stay. Real talk, real life, just telling it my way. Today's story takes us deep into the mountains of West Virginia, to the historic little town of Berkeley Springs. A town known for its healing waters, scenic roads, friendly faces, and the kind of small town charm that makes visitors feel as though they have stepped into another time. But beyond the shops, church steeples, and beautiful mountain views stands a place with a darker reputation. A cliff where broken hearts are said to leave their final secrets behind. A place called Lover's Leap. Every autumn, the people of Berkeley Springs gather for the annual Lover's Leap and Apple Butter Festival. The streets fill with music, vendors sell quilts, candles, preserves, and handmade crafts. Large copper kettles simmer beneath the open sky as families stir fresh apple butter with long wooden paddles. Children laugh, couples walk hand in hand, and the mountain looks down upon them all. To visitors, it is simply a celebration. To those who were born and raised in Berkeley Springs, it is also a reminder because the mountain has watched generations fall in love, it has witnessed promises, it has kept secrets, and according to legend, it has a way of exposing anyone who climbs it with a lie inside their heart. Today's story is about two women who appear to have found the kind of love people spend their entire lives searching for. One of them dreamed of forever, the other dreamed of a fortune. And somewhere in the shadows a third woman waited for their marriage to end. Turn down the lights, get comfortable, and listen closely. Because not every bride says I do for love.
