Welcome back to Ask Velvet Podcast. On this episode, I want to talk about the behavior of some New York Knicks fans and why I find it absolutely disgusting, outrageous, and completely unacceptable. Sports are supposed to bring people together. Whether you're a Knicks fan, a Spurs fan, a Lakers fan, or a fan of any other team, everyone should be able to attend a game, wear their team's jersey, cheer for their team, and return home safely. That should be the standard. But after seeing reports and videos of Spurs fans being harassed and attacked, and even seeing the chaos surrounding the Spurs team bus, I have to ask, where is the line? Because what happened goes far beyond sports rivalry. This wasn't trash talk. This wasn't passionate fandom. This was behavior that embarrassed the city, embarrassed the fan base, and reflected poorly on everyone involved. The NBA, city leaders, and team officials need to address this before someone gets seriously hurt. What bothers me the most is that nobody should have to fear for their safety simply because of the team they support. Imagine taking your family to a game, wearing a Spurs jersey and worrying about being harassed or attacked by a crowd. That's not what sports are supposed to be about. When I watched some of the footage, it reminded me of the movie The Return of the Living Dead. In the movie, ordinary people are transformed into aggressive, zombie-like creatures that completely lose control. That's honestly what some of this behavior looked like to me. People weren't acting like reasonable sports fans. They were acting like a mob. And here's the thing, real fans don't embarrass their city. Real fans don't embarrass their team. Real fans celebrate victories and handle defeat without attacking other people. The mayor of New York should speak out against this behavior. The MBA should speak out against this behavior. The Knicks organization should speak out against this behavior. Silence only sends the message that this kind of conduct is acceptable and it isn't. If incidents like this continue, the league will eventually be forced to take stronger action. Nobody wants to see that happen, but protecting the safety of players, staff, and fans has to be the top priority. Sports are emotional. People get invested, people get passionate, but this is a huge difference between passion and violence. The moment fans start attacking other fans, they've crossed a line that should never be crossed. At the end of the day, this isn't about the Knicks versus the Spurs. It's about basic human decency. No fans should be attacked because of the jersey they're wearing. No player should have to worry about hostile crowds surrounding team transportation. No city should want to become known for fans who can't control themselves after a game. The overwhelming majority of sports fans are good people. They show up, support their teams, and go home. Unfortunately, it only takes a small group of people behaving badly to damage the reputation of an entire fan base. My hope is that the NBA, the Knicks organization, the city leaders take these incidents seriously and make it clear that this behavior has no place in sports. Because if we want sports to remain fun, exciting, and welcoming, then everyone, regardless of what team they support, has to feel safe. Thanks for listening, and I'll see you on the next episode.
