Alright, before I get into this story, I want to let y'all know this is part two of my extended stay hotel series. Because listen, the stories from that place, they don't run out. There was always something going on. So if you haven't heard part one, go ahead and run that back. But this one right here, this one is a whole situation. So boom, it's Friday. I'm supposed to be off. Off means off, right? Not in hospitality. My co-worker didn't show up, so they called me in. And honestly I didn't even argue. I said all right, cool. I'll take the extra money. Because one thing about me, I'm not turning down a check. So I walk in and when I tell you I walked into chaos, I mean packages everywhere. Now mind you, this is an extended stay hotel. These aren't overnight guests. These are people living there for months. So what do they do? Shop constantly. Amazon, UPS, USPS. Boxes stacked up like a warehouse. I had to check in every single package, scan them, organize them, stack them up so when guests came down asking, do I have a package? I could find it. And let me tell you, they always had a package. So after I finally finished dealing with all that, it slows down. Real quiet. Just me behind the desk chilling, minding my business like I always do. Then one of our regulars comes in. Now I noticed something right away. He had two rooms booked, but I didn't ask questions because working concierge teaches you real fast. Mind your business and do your job. So he checks into one room with a young woman. And when I say young, I mean yeah, I clocked it, but again, not my business. A few hours goes by. Then here comes another woman. She walks in confident and says, Hi, I misses so and so. My husband said he had a room for us. And right there, I already knew what kind of night this was about to be. So I kept so I keep it professional, give her the key to the second room, and send her on her way. But in my mind, I'm like, oh yeah, this is about to turn into something. Now here's where it gets wild. She's going up the elevator, and at the same time he's coming down a different elevator with the other woman. And I'm sitting there watching this like it's a movie. So I stop him real quick, tell him there's an issue with his card, just to pull him to the side, and I say quietly, your wife is here. The look on his face, pure panic. He starts talking fast. Oh man, I thought she was coming tomorrow. And I just looked at him like well she didn't. So he leaves, goes out for the night with the other woman like it's everything's normal. Now fast forward, they come back. And I kid you not, as they're about to get on the elevator, his wife is getting off the other one. I said Oh this is it. This is where everything goes down. But somehow somehow he didn't get caught in that moment. His wife comes down to the desk later asking me if I've seen him. And I'm like, I'm not sure who your husband is. Because listen, I'm not about to be in the middle of nobody's situation. That's above my pay grade. So she goes back upstairs and eventually everything quiets down. Now early the next morning I see him again. He's downstairs with the other woman, moving quick, getting her into a car like he's trying to wrap up unfinished business before the sun fully comes out. He comes back in, looks at me, and says thank you for not blowing my cover. And I just looked at him and said, I didn't see anything. I see no evil, hear no evil. Because that right there, that's the concierge code. And of course he tipped me. And the crazy part, I ended up working overnight too, because somebody else couldn't come in. So I made good money that day. But that's how it was in that hotel. Every shift something was happening. People coming in with laundry like they moving in for real. People juggling whole relationships under one roof. And me sitting right there at the desk watching it all unfold. Because one thing I learned working concierge is this people don't just check into hotels, they check in their secrets too.
