Welcome back to Ask Velvet, where we talk real life, real thoughts, and real conversations without sugarcoating a thing. Today I want to take you on a little trip down memory lane, back to the music we grew up on compared to the music that's playing now. And trust me, there is a major difference. Because back then, if a song had curse words, sexual content, or anything even slightly explicit, it wasn't just lightly edited. It was bleeped into oblivion. Sometimes you couldn't even understand half the song on the radio. And honestly, that used to make you go by the album just to figure out what they were really saying. But now things have changed a lot. So let's talk about it. Growing up, radio edits were serious business. Songs would get chopped, muted, reversed. Sometimes you'd hear more silence than lyrics. And it wasn't just profanity either. Even suggestive content would get toned down or removed completely. But today's music landscape is a whole different world. Now artists can say almost anything they want on the radio. Explicit lyrics aren't always hidden anymore. Songs talk openly about sex, partying, money, relationships, sometimes in very graphic detail, and it often plays unfiltered or barely edited. And what's interesting is the audience has changed too. People are more used to it. It's become normalized in a way that would have been shocking decades ago. Now, I'm not saying one error is better than the other, but I do find myself asking questions like when did we stop filtering so much? Are we more open now or just less sensitive? And is anything still off limits anymore? Because while I understand we're living in a different day and age where freedom of expression is stronger than ever, I also believe there's still a line that some artists cross. And it makes you wonder if we even draw that line anymore. At the same time, I get it, music evolves, culture shifts, and artists reflect the world they live in. But still, it's a big shift when you compare radio friendly back then to anything goes now. So I'll leave you with this. Do you think music today is more honest and free? Or do you think we've lost something by removing so many boundaries? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. As always, thank you for tuning in to Ask Velvet.
